Our Weekend in Windermere

Our Spontaneous Weekend in Windermere.

The weather was unusually and surprisingly sunny and hot for the time of year. It was only the end of march and it was T-shirt weather. With this in mind we decided to have an overnight stay in windermere, especially as it was only an hours drive away from where we live.
We browsed the hotels in and around windermere on a website which allowed us to check out the hotels own websites and facilities they offered. Once we had decided where to stay we phoned the hotel directly and were pleased to receive a cheaper rate than the one advertised on other popular websites. Possibly due to the lack of commission paid to other sites. On arrival we received a friendly welcome along with a cup of coffee and home made cake.
We were very pleased with our accommodation, especially as we got it at a cheaper rate!

For the rest of the day we decided to have a stroll around the east side of lake windermere. The lake was busy with a wide variety of boats and happy people enjoying the great weather. We decided we would like to join in and headed towards Bowness on Windermere to catch a ferry trip. Quite a while later, (it was further than we anticipated!) we boarded the ferry. We had a very pleasant trip to the top of lake windermere and departed at Ambleside where we enjoyed a drink in the glorious sun at the side of the lake.. Pure bliss. After a peaceful hour lounging on the side of the lake at Ambleside we jumped on the ferry back to Bowness on Windermere. We then continued to our excellent hotel on new road in Windermere.

We had enjoyed a pleasant and extremely sunny afternoon on the lake at windermere and it was time for a relax at the hotel before heading out for our evening meal. We decided on Jericho’s on college rd in Windermere.
We were not disappointed. Jericho’s is an excellent restaurant and comes highly rated in the michelin guide. We did phone and book in advance and we are glad we did as it was very busy. Our food was of the highest standard and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

tarn howsThe following morning, after we had checked out of our great hotel (which we found here) we decided to drive round to tarn hows which is one of our most treasured and favourite places in the lake district national park. Tarn Hows is a Tarn, north of Coniston and possible one of the most picturesque places in the UK. We walked around the Tarn which can take up to an hour however we did stop on several occasions to take in the breathtaking beauty around us. The Tarn however was very busy, quite possibly due to the hot sunny weather we were experiencing, but hey, you cant expect others to not want to enjoy Tarn Hows too...

Our spontaneous weekend in Windermere had come to an end but it was a perfect way to enjoy the rather unusual weather for march in the UK.
