Why Visit Penrith?

Lying just outside the National Park, Penrith is a large town that has a reputation as the regional centre and the eastern gateway to the Lakes. Once the capital of Cumbria, Penrith has excellent transport links and is known for its wide variety of shops and attractions.

Because it is a bustling market town, Penrith is a great place to stop as it not only provides beauty, but also many 21st century offerings too - it has the best of both worlds.

Penrith is also unique as it is dominated by Beacon Fell, a rich red sandstone outcrop. In fact, the sandstone was used for much of the town's buildings and is now a major characteristic of Penrith.
